Breakfast with Dr. Akbar Ahmed

Many of the Buffalo State College faculty and staff members were gathered for a breakfast meeting with Dr. Akbar Ahmed, Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies at American University and the Distinguished Chair for Middle East/Islamic Studies.
Dr. Ahmed is the author of Journey into Islam: The Crisis of Globalization and many other books including New York Times best seller, Islam Today. According to the BBC, Dr. Ahmed is considered “the world’s leading authority on contemporary Islam.” He has been interviewed as an expert on CNN, CBC, the BBC, ARY TV, the Oprah Winfrey Show, and ABC’s Nightline. The breakfast meeting was organized by Faizan Haq, lecturer, Communication Department, and Carmen Iannaccone, professor emeritus, Exceptional Education, and sponsored by the Communication Department.

The New York Conference on Asian Studies (NYCAS ) was on Cultural Connections, Convergences, and Collisions Past and Present‖ UB participants in this year’s NYCAS conference include: Dr. Thomas Burkman, participating in a roundtable on Imperial Connection: Asia in the Era of Imperialism. Dr. Kristin Stapleton, participating in a round table on ―China and the World in the Wake of Beijing Olympics. Faizan Haq, participating in a roundtable on ―Perspectives on the Change of Regime in Pakistan. Other participants in the roundtable with Professor Haq were Theodore Wright, Jr., from U. at Albany, Feisal Khan, from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Salah Malik, from The College at Brockport, and Vikash Yadav, from Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

In order to address concerns of the Pakistani American Community, the Pakistani American Congress (PAC) hosted its 16th annual “A Day on the Hill”. There was a panel with policy experts including Faizan Haq, as Senior Vice President of Pakistani American Congress and discussions to celebrate the long history of the Friendship between the US and Pakistan.

The Pakistani American Congress (PAC) hosted a panel discussion on the topic of The Future of US/Pakistan Relations and the Role of Pakistani Americans. The panel included Faizan Haq, Senior Vice President, of the Pakistani American Congress. The discussion focused on how the latest developments in Pakistan affect US/Pakistan relations and what the role of Pakistani Americans should be in social, economical and political arenas both in the present, past and future.
